Today is National Walking Day
According to an article by the American Psychological Association called Want to boost your mental health? Take a walk, they state that “Even moderate amounts of exercise can help ward off depression”.
From personal experience, I know this to be true. The other day I was feeling a little crabby when hubby and I went out to walk our two yorkies. The sun was shining, the sky blue with white clouds, the temp in the 40’s, and the snow melting. I could feel the warmth of the sun, see birds fly above me and squirrels run from yard to yard, and before long, I noticed that my mood had greatly improved. The brief article goes on to say that adults who got the recommended 2.5 hours of brisk walking/week lowered their risk of depression by 25%, and those who only got in 75” of brisk walking/week, lowered their risk of depression by 18%.
